Reverend Phillip and Mrs. Cathy Battle founded the Western Pennsylvania Diaper Bank (WPDB) in 2012 while serving the New Light Temple Baptist Church as pastor and First Lady. Cathy has been serving as the WPDB’s Executive Director on a volunteer-basis since its inception.
She is a full-time neonatal intensive care respiratory therapist at AHN Forbes Regional Hospital, Monroeville. She and Pastor Battle have two grown children and seven grandchildren so they know about diaper need!
Cathy was honored with a 2016 Jefferson Award for community service by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. This occurred just a year after the Diaper Bank also received the award.
Over the past five years, WPDB has continued to grow, easing diaper need in Western Pennsylvania despite an ever increasing demand. Pastor Phillip Battle and his wife Cathy never waver from their commitment to keep babies safe, dry and happy and inspire others to help. Cathy tells the story.
